The IAAF / Maroc Telecom World Youth Championships 2005,Marrakesh :

Russia takes the lead on the board of medals

On the fourth day of the The IAAF /Maroc Telecom World Youth Championships, Marrakech , Russia is number one with three golden medals, and five bronze. Two Moroccan athletes are attending the last day of the competition to be held on Sunday afternoon at five o’clock (GMT), with a timetable of eleven finals. The Moroccan athletes will certainly find it difficult to grab a medal. The technical staff of the the Royal Moroccan Athletics Federation have placed high hopes on Halima hachlaf (800m – Girls) and Hakim El Mafhoum (Pole Vault - Boys).


Huang (CHN) had a multi level performance. He snatched gold for China and smashed the championship record with a jump of 2.27m.
Nartove Oleskander from Ukraine, and Soto Alex from Spain won silve and bronze respectively. The latter also improved his personal best (2.18).
The Cuban Hector Fuentes (Triple Jump – Boys) and the Chinese have enchanted the audience and professionals from the world of athletics with their incredible talents they are gifted with.

800m - Girls - Semi final. Halima Hachlaf sustains Morocco’s hope for a medal.
Halima (MOR) clinched a ticket to the 800m final easily. She came second after Kwamboko Flavious Teresa (USA). Halima improved her seasonal best (2:06.91) as well. There will be a tough final race between them and Plateau Carolyn (GBR) and Wagner Angela (RSA).

3000 metres - Boys - Final. Abaid Zamzami (MOR) has failed the race for a medal.
Abaid Ezamzami (MOR) was not up to his compatriots’ expectations. He ran a dull race and came twelfth in the race. Feleke Abreham and Gashu Ibrahim Jellan (ETH) struggled for the golden medal which went to the first runner. The Ethiopian runners dedicated their country its first medals at the Championship.

1000m - Boys - Race Walk Final. Russian long runners to snatch gold and silver for Russia.
Sergey Morzov (RUS) has grabbed Russia’s second gold medal on race walk. His compatriot and main contestant, Vladimir Akhmetov, won silver. They were competitive and cooperative during the race. The bronze medal went to the Japanese Yusuke Suzuki who improved his personal best (42: 43. 22).

Hammer Throw – Girls. Pierie Bianca (ROM) to dedicate her country the first golden medal.
Pierie (ROM) threw 62.27m and finally won the golden medal at the IAAF World Youth Championships. Silver and bronze went to Bulgakova Anna (RUS) and Levai Dora (HUN) respectively.

400m hurdles - Boys - Final. The era of Arab sprinters.
Adel Jaber Asseri, Mohammad Daak (KSA) and Salih Dar, Abdulgadir Idriss (SUD) are displaying their abilitity with a devastating effect. They clinched a ticket to the final (400m hurdles – Boys) and improved their personal bests. They will make it difficult for David Klech (USA), man of the world youth leading performance (50.96).

Shot Put - Girls - Final. Du Toi Simoné to grab gold and to smash the world youth leading performance.
Du toi has finally brought South Africa the second golden medal and smached the world youth leading performance. Libo (CHN), and Samuel Dani (AUS) won silver and bronze respectively. They also improved their seasonal bests.

Medley Relay - Girls – Heats. Morocco will be in the loop for a medal.
Morroco (Adili Fadoua, Ait Assou Hajar, Noussail Siham, and Lambarki Hayat) finally breeze to the medley relay final with a personal best. Too much hope will be centred on them to dedicate Morocco a medal.

Pole Vault - Girls – Final. Stefanidi Ekaterini (GRE), to win gold and to break the championship record.
Finally Stefanidi hasn’t only dedicated Greece the golden medal they had been expecting, she has broken the championship record (4.30)m as well. Moterola Keisa (GER) did the same height for silver. The bronze medal went to the Chinese Yu Shuo.

Thirty-five Moroccan athletes to quit the competition.
Motivated but inexperienced, thirty- five athletes quit the competition up to the third day. The value of the IAAF/ Maroc Telecom world Youth Championships for Moroccan athletes, however, is to acclimatise them with the rhythm of international athletic meetings. Moroccans are still placing high hopes on other fourteen athletes to dedicate Morocco a medal.

The fourth day of the competition has given birth to a world leading performance (WYL) and four championship records in different disciplines. It has also been characterized with the improvement of more than forty personal bests in different disciplines.

Discus Throw (1.500kg) - Boys – Final. Shahrokhi Ali has brought his country (IR) the first medal (gold) at the IAAF World Youth Championships, Marrakech 2005. He advanced charlot Osmel ( CUB), and Vital Silva (POR) who won silver and bronze respectively.
