 We are confident that the organising of the IAAF/MAROC TELECOM World Youth Championships in Marrakesh city which is widely known for its rich athletic traditions, will be crowned with success not only by the great sporting performances to be realised at the stadium of Sidi Youssef Ben Ali, but also by the enthousiasm of the Moroccan public in general and the Marrakshi in particular.
Actually, athletics is a discipline very cherished by Moroccans. And to award Marrakesh the organisation of these championships is a real symbol of great confidence in addition to the world position that this city enjoys owing to its rich experience in organising very important political, economic, scientific, cutural and sporting manifestations.
If the 26th IAAF World Cross Country Championships held in Marrakesh in 1998 were distinguished by having been competed for the first time in two days introducing then the short race event, the World Youth Championships, to be staged in the same city, will be particular in terms of its organisation for the first time in an African country.
To succeed this big athletic event, Marrakesh, the brightest jewel of the Moroccan kingdom will offer, besides the legendary hospitality of its inhabitants, all the marvels of its ramparts, palaces, mosques, famous place ‘’Jamaâ El Fna’’, the one hundred thousand palm trees and the often- snowy Atlas Mountains.
Hence, the local organising committee of these championships would like to welcome the honorable members of the IAAF Council presided by our friend Mr. Lamine DIACK, the athletes, the delegations from various countries of different continents and the international press representatives, and assure them that every effort will be undertaken to make their stay more comfortable and pleasant.
With God’s help, this competition will be a joyful event for the world juveniles.
